The Sky Blues ran out comfortable winners at the Amex, but it seems Guardiola wasn’t entirely content with his team’s performance.
Pep Guardiola has explained why Manchester City “suffered” in the second half of their Premier League match against Brighton on Saturday.
Manchester City dominated the proceedings in the opening 45 minutes and carried a healthy 3-goal lead into the break.
The second half didn’t follow the pattern of the first one as Graham Potter’s men looked much better after half-time, coming close to scoring on a few occasions and even managed to pull one back.
However, their ambitious plan of a comeback never came to fruition and City added a fourth in the dying moments to rub salt into their wounds and record an emphatic 4-1 win.
“I will tell you the reason why we didn’t play well in half an hour of the second half,” Guardiola said at his post-match press conference.
“In this game, you have to have the ball. If you don’t have it, you suffer. Brighton know what to do.
“We suffered together and it is a good lesson for the future. It doesn’t matter what stadium, the only time you have success is to play with the ball – to have the ball. We gave the ball away and when the opponent is good, you suffer.”
