The former Spurs man has been suggested as a possible solution to the right-back position problem for the Toffees.
Everton manager Rafael Benitez has dismissed the possibility of signing Serge Aurier saying the club must “think about the future and not just the short term.”
Aurier is currently a free agent, having been released by Tottenham at the end of the summer of the transfer window.
Tottenham decided to tear up the Ivory Coast international’s contract, which was due to run out in less than a year, after being unable to find a buyer for him, according to reports.
He was already struggling for minutes at Spurs amid competition from Matt Doherty and Japhet Tanganga for the right-back spot, and fell further down the squad pecking order following the arrival of Emerson Royal.
The former Paris Saint-Germain man has been linked with a move to Everton, who are supposedly in search of a temporary solution with first-choice right-back Seamus Coleman currently out injured – but as it turns out, there’s no truth in those rumors.
“I don’t see a clear option with that,” Benitez said regarding the Aurier to Everton transfer talks (via the club’s Youtube channel).
“We have to think about the future and not just the short term. Now we have to find the solutions but we have to be sure the solutions aren’t just for a couple of months, just the rest of the season and the next year.”
