The Catalans suffered three consecutive defeats in Europe for the first time in their history after a second successive loss against Bayern.

Ronald Koeman admits “there is a difference in quality” between FC Barcelona and Bayern Munich after the two teams’ Champions League encounter on Tuesday.

Robert Lewandowski scored twice while Thomas Muller also got on the scoresheet as Bayern Munich recorded an emphatic 3-0 victory over Barcelona.

The Bundesliga champions were the dominant side for the better part of the 90 minutes, controlling the match better, not allowing the opposition defenders to rest.

The scoreline could’ve been much more embarrassing for Barca, who failed to have even a single shot on target.

“It is what it is for the time being. I cannot complain about the attitude, but there is a difference in quality,” Koeman told post-match, per Marca.

“[Bayern are] a team that as a group have been together for a long time and also have a bench that has improved.

“We have many young players who in two or three years will be better. It is very difficult to accept it, but we have to wait for things to improve and players to recover from their injuries.

“It is what it is, we have to spend a few weeks like this because later we are going to get players like [Sergio] Aguero, [Ousmane] Dembele, and Ansu Fati back.”
