The Blaugrana faced a very early exit in the continental competition last term, and it remains to be seen how far they can go this time.

FC Barcelona are “not amongst the favourites” to win the Champions League, admits Sergio Aguero.

It has been over half a decade since Barcelona last picked up the most prestigious prize in club football, with their most recent Champions League triumph being in 2015-16.

The closest the Catalan club have come to get their hands on the highly-esteemed trophy ever since was in the 2018-19 season wherein they managed to reach the semi-finals.

The season after, they exited the competition after being humiliated at the hands of eventual champions Bayern Munich, suffering an embarrassing 8-2 defeat in the quarter-finals.

Aguero, who joined the club only this summer, though, is not too concerned about Barca’s recent record in the Champions League as he feels his new club is still a force to reckon with.

“Barcelona are Barcelona, so we have to fight for every title,” Aguero told in an interview with radio station RAC1.

“We are not amongst the favourites in the Champions League, but our opponents will have respect for us. Whenever I’ve faced Barcelona, even at their worst, we’ve always said that ‘it’s Barcelona’.

“A lot of people aren’t expecting us to do well in the competition but I would say to them all to look out.”
