The Chelsea striker has explained why fans should ‘never’ compare him to Cristiano Ronaldo, who he rates as one of the best players ever.

Romelu Lukaku insists he can’t be compared to one of ‘best players in the history of football’ in Cristiano Ronaldo.

Just weeks after Lukaku swapped Inter Milan for Chelsea in August, Ronaldo joined the Belgian back to the Premier League by sealing a stunning deadline day return to Manchester United.

Ronaldo may be on the wrong side of 30, but he remains a formidable player. The Portugal captain became the all-time top international goalscorer last week by scoring his 110th and 111th goals. He also outscored a 28-year-old Lukaku by five goals in last season’s Capocannoniere race in Serie A.

His Premier League return has since drawn comparisons between himself and Lukaku as both attackers eye the Golden Boot award.

“Don’t ever compare me to Cristiano Ronaldo, never,” said Lukaku as per Goal about being compared to CR7.

“Cristiano Ronaldo is, for me, in the top three best players in the history of football. I’m not going to rank him from first to third, but he’s in there.

“What he has achieved in football today for players of my generation is something exceptional. I was lucky enough to play against him in Italy and now that he’s back in the Premier League, it’s all good for English football.

“As for the rest, comparing statistics and all that, it’s useless.”

Lukaku, who has scored 66 international goals, could make his 100th appearance for Belgium on Sunday in a World Cup qualifier against the Czech Republic.
