The Blues left it late in the summer market to secure the signature of the Spanish midfielder.

Saul Niguez is well aware of the competition for a spot in midfield in Chelsea and admits “it will not be easy” to find regular playing time.

Saul completed a switch from Atletico Madrid to Chelsea on a season-long loan deal on the deadline day of the summer transfer window.

The Blues have included an option in the deal to make the 26-year-old’s move permanent next summer for a fee of £30 million, according to reports.

“Chelsea has promised me to train in my position, to play we will see. To return to certain customs that I do not do now, that is the most important reason for my decision,” Saul said on a Twitch stream with Ibai Llanos.

“The three midfielders who are playing are at a high level, it will not be easy to play, but if I put my mind to it and fight it, I can get it.”

It had appeared the Spanish midfielder was set to stay put at Atletico as there was no confirmation of his transfer by either club before the midnight CET deadline.

Saul added on his last-gasp move: “At 11:57 p.m. we finished reviewing the contract and they had to see it there… I was like [David] De Gea. I thought: ‘This is not going to come in and that’s it.’ It has been a long afternoon and night.

“My wife was very nervous, we have had some very complicated days, because this decision is not easy. Leaving my house on a new adventure is complicated.”
