While aware of the quality that Lionel Messi brings to PSG, Thierry Henry has warned the Ligue 1 club about one critical weakness.

Thierry Henry has warned Paris Saint-Germain that a leaky defense could hurt their title aspirations this season.

Lionel Messi’s arrival on a free transfer has propelled PSG into the spotlight. He is one of five new players to join the club after Sergio Ramos, Gianluigi Donnarumma, Georginio Wijnaldum, and Achraf Hakimi.

But while the six-time Ballon d’Or winner is certainly a boost for PSG’s domestic and Champions League title challenge, Henry has questioned the Ligue 1 giants’ defensive credentials.

“Balance is the most important. At one point, we always talk about great players, attacking, going forward, but we need a balance,” he told Dimanche Soir Foot on Amazon Prime.

Henry, who won the Champions League as part of treble alongside Messi at Barcelona in 2008/09, added: “We are talking about the team in which I played at Barca, but people forget to point out that we weren’t conceding a lot of goals.

“In general, teams that don’t concede a lot of goals are not far from the title, or even from the Champions League.

“When you have superhuman players, it gets a little easier but when I see how Paris is evolving at the moment, they concede too many goals for my taste to be able to go a little further. It is true that there was a lack of players but the balance is the most important.”

PSG have conceded three goals in their first two games of the new Ligue 1 season after beating Strasbourg 4-2 on Saturday.
