The Brazil international is set for a spell on the sidelines and will miss the start the of the 2021-22 campaign.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has informed Alex Telles’s injury is “more severe” than expected and that the player could remain on the sidelines for “the whole of August”.

Telles was forced to sit out Man United’s pre-season warm-up fixture against Queens Park Rangers due to a knee problem he picked up during training last week.

The new season will commence on August 14, with the Red Devils set to welcome bitter rivals Leeds United at Old Trafford for the opening match of their 2021-22 Premier League campaign. A trip to Southampton will follow while a match against Wolves will come next for them.

Telles will likely miss all three aforementioned fixtures, but he is expected to be available for the Newcastle United game on September 11.

“Unfortunately, it’s worse news on Alex Telles than we hoped for, his ankle injury is a little bit more severe than we hoped and he’ll be out for a little spell at least, the whole of August I would think,” Solskjaer told MUTV.

“That is football. We’ve got kids wanting to play of course. Brandon has done well in the left-back position.”
