The Gladbach star is keen on taking a new step in his career after making a name for himself as one of the best young defensive midfielders.
Borussia Monchengladbach star Denis Zakaria “would prefer a transfer this summer”, the club’s sporting director Max Eberl has confirmed.
Zakaria is drawing interest from a number of Premier League clubs, with Manchester City, Manchester United, Tottenham, Arsenal, and Liverpool reportedly all in the mix.
The 24-year-old is reportedly desperate to play European football and is therefore reluctant to spend a fifth season at Borussia-Park after the club marginally missed out on European qualification last season.
Monchengladbach have been trying to renew the Switzerland international, who has entered the final year of his contract, for some time now but it has been to no avail so far.
“With Denis, we have been trying to extend his contract since October,” stated Eberl, as Goal reports.
“Denis and his management told us pretty clearly that they would prefer a transfer this summer.”
The Monchengladbach also went on to discuss the situation of defender Matthias Ginter, who is also linked with an exit from the club.
“When he is back, we’ll see what opportunities arise,” he said.
