A victim of Luke Shaw’s remarkable rejuvenation, the Brazilian full-back didn’t get as many minutes as he had hoped for last season.
Alex Telles has essentially poured cold water over his Manchester United exit talks saying “it’s a pleasure” for him to be at the club and that he’s looking forward to his next season at Old Trafford.
Telles joined Manchester United on a €15 million transfer last summer. Arriving at the club with a reputation of being one of the most effective attacking full-backs, he was expected to draft straight into their starting XI.
However, it didn’t play out as per the scripts for the 28-year-old as he buckled under competition from a rejuvenated Luke Shaw, who was preferred by Ole Gunner Solskjaer more often than not. He was afforded only 24 appearances in 2020-21, with only nine of those coming in the Premier League.
With Shaw going on to further make his case stronger as the club’s first-choice left-back with his dynamic displays for England at Euro 2020, it has been reported United could cut their losses on the former Porto man.
Telles, though, suggests is up for the fight so as to prove his worth.
The Brazilian told United Daily: “It’s a pleasure to be at Manchester United coming into my second season.
“Last season, we came really close to winning trophies, so we go into this next season with a lot of desire and I really want to show my work and my value here at the club.
“I’m really looking forward to the game, I’m going into the game with a lot of desire. I think it’s a really great opportunity for us players who have been here for the last two weeks.
“It’s going to be a tough test but we’re really well prepared for it. We’ve been working really hard in training today, and this last week, and I believe it’s an opportunity to show my value my quality and my potential here at Manchester United.
“I know Manchester United Football Club and the fans really believe in me.”
