The France U21 defender made the switch from the Red Bull Arena to Anfield this summer on a £36 million transfer.
Liverpool have announced Ibrahima Konate will be wearing the No 5 shirt in the upcoming season.
Konate inherits the squad number of Georginio Wijnaldum, who left the club last month to join Paris Saint-Germain. Wijnaldum joined PSG on a free transfer after a successful five-year stint at the club.
Before Wijnaldum, defender Daniel Agger had donned the No 5 shirt. Milan Baros, Steve Staunton, and Mark Wright are a few other notable figures to have filled that shirt.
The 22-year-old center-back was one of the players to model the Reds’ new away jersey, which is described by manufacturers Nike as “off-white stone” colored to reflect the “rich history” of the city of Liverpool and is inspired by the classic 1996-97 strip.
A statement on the club website read: “Liverpool FC can confirm the squad number Ibrahima Konate will wear for the 2021-22 season.
“The centre-back, who joined the Reds from RB Leipzig on July 1, will assume the No 5 jersey. Georginio Wijnaldum was the previous incumbent of the shirt during his five-year spell at Anfield.”
