Jorginho dismissive towards Ballon d'Or, eyeing something 'more beautiful'

The midfielder’s name was recently thrown into the hat for this year’s Golden Ball in light of his impressive performances for club and country.

Jorginho plays down talks he is in the running for the Ballon d’Or saying he is prioritizing collective success over individual glory.

Jorginho has been making headlines while on international duty with Italy at Euro 2020, having played a key role in the Azzurri’s progress into the quarter-finals of the tournament.

The 29-year-old was just as crucial for Chelsea on their way to Champions League glory last season, playing in all but one of their 13 matches in the competition.

Jorginho’s compatriot and former Napoli teammate Lorenzo Insigne recently put him in the reckoning for the Ballon d’Or.

“I’m not the one deciding if he deserves the Ballon d’Or but I hope he’ll be shortlisted,” Insigne said.

“He deserves it because he’s a great player. I call him “the professor” and we are all happy to play with him.”

“I don’t think about it,” responded Jorginho when asked about a Ballon d’Or bid, per Chelsea’s official website. “Everything that is happening is the consequence of hard work.

“My priority is the group and celebrating together with my teammates and friends. This is more beautiful than celebrating alone.”
