The Liverpool man stole the headlines as the Swiss kept their ambition of making it to the knockout stages of Euro 2020 alive.

Xherdan Shaqiri was “very pleased” after bagging a brace for Switzerland against Turkey in Euro 2020 Group A matchday 2.

Shaqiri doubled Switzerland’s lead with a curled shot with his weaker right foot from outside the box after Haris Seferovic had put them on the front foot quickly after kick-off.

The winger then produced another admirable finish deep into the second half to restore his side’s two-goal cushion after Turkey had pulled one back.

A 3-1 victory meant the Rossocrociati remain well in contention for a last-16 berth in this summer’s tournament.

“Yeah, especially the first one with my right foot, it was a really good technique,” said Shaqiri in response to the beIN Sports journalist’s comment that his goals were “special.”

“I’m very happy and very pleased that I could help the team with my two goals and that we reacted after the defeat against Italy, it was very good today.

“I’m very pleased for the performance of the team.”
