Punishing the Spaniards for failing to extend the lead, Robert Lewandowksi saved the day for the Poles by ensuring a share of the spoils.

Poland scraped out a 1-1 draw against Spain to keep alive their hopes of reaching the last-16 of Euro 2020.

Alvaro Morata put Spain on the front foot with a close-range finish. The goal was initially ruled out for offside by the linesman but a VAR review proved the striker was played onside by Bartosz Bereszynski.

Luis Enrique’s men missed a couple of chances to increase their advantage before the break, with Gerrard Moreno misdirecting a free-kick on one occasion and sending a shot wide of the target on another.

About ten minutes into the second half, Robert Lewandowsi helped Poland get back in the game as he rose the highest to meet Kamil Jozwiak’s cross and headed the ball into the net.

The Spaniards were quickly offered a glorious chance to retake their lead when the referee awarded them a penalty for a late challenge on Moreno. However, they failed to capitalize as Moreno hit the post from the spot while Morata struck the follow-up wide.

The result leaves Spain without a win at Euro 2020, having also been held to a draw by Sweden in their opening match of the tournament.
