The Inter Milan midfielder was in no condition to continue playing even after prolonged medical attention and CPR administration.

Euro 2020 Group B fixture Denmark vs Finland was suspended after Christian Eriksen collapsed on the pitch.

Eriksen was seen struggling on his way to the touchline to take a throw-in. After taking a few steps, he suddenly fell down to the field as the ball was thrown in his direction.

Medical staff raced onto the pitch to administer treatment, with the Denmark players forming a shield around their unconscious teammate to provide privacy.

After a failed resuscitation attempt that lasted for 10 minutes, the 29-year-old was stretchered off as his Danish teammates watched in distress.

The match was initially suspended on 42 minutes with the score at 0-0 and later postponed.

A post on UEFA’s official Twitter read: “Following the medical emergency involving Denmark’s player Christian Eriksen, a crisis meeting has taken place with both teams and match officials and further information will be communicated at 19:45 CET.

“The player has been transferred to the hospital and has been stabilised.”

The Danish FA said via a tweet: “Christian Eriksen is awake and is for further examinations at Rigshospitalet (Health center in Glostrup, Denmark)

“The match is temporarily postponed. New message comes at 19.45.”
