When it comes between Manchester United’s David De Gea and Dean Henderson, who do you think should be the first-choice goalkeeper?
This is an uprising question that probably every Manchester United fan thinks about. Who should be chosen as the primary goalkeeper between David De Gea and Dean Henderson? Even the Red Devils boss Ole Gunnar Solkjaer faced this ultimate dilemma regarding the man in the goalpost. The Spanish stopper has been the most valuable asset for those in reds since his arrival at the club.
However, Henderson made his return to Old Trafford from Sheffield United only to put De Gea under pressure. His incredible performances at his loaned team made quite an impression on Ole. Right now, both the goalkeepers are away on international duty for the Euros. But as tension mounts on Solskjaer, he must make a bold decision to put one or the either in a permanent spot. That means United could use the other to raise funds for other important transfers.
Ex-England goalkeeper shares his perspective.
Former England stopper David James thinks that Ole should choose the England international Dean Henderson over David De Gea. “I would go Henderson, he’s 23 and at Premier League level he’s obviously shown that he can perform, with Sheffield United and also now a number of occasions with Manchester United,” James told Goal. “There’s some getting used to playing for Manchester United, which is slightly different to playing for Sheffield United, but the capability that he’s already got and the potential that he has is far greater than what David de Gea offers.”
“De Gea isn’t a bad goalkeeper, it’s not about that. I just think from a manager’s perspective, you’re looking at where the club’s going to go forward. De Gea has been phenomenal for Manchester United, but to stay performing at that level is so difficult. I think with Dean Henderson there’s an opportunity there for Manchester United to go forward.”
