Havertz knocked the ball into the back of the net after piercing through the City backline and evading Ederson, handing Chelsea the lead.

Rio Ferdinand blasts Oleksandr Zinchenko for “lazy defending” for Chelsea‘s opening goal against Manchester City in the Champions League final.

An exquisite threaded through ball by Mason Mount sent Kai Havertz through on Man City goal couple of minutes before the half-time break. Havertz made the most of the opportunity as he took the ball around Ederson and struck it into an empty net to score his first Champions League goal of the season.

The former Manchester United defender thought the goal could have easily been prevented as he criticizes Zinchenko for not getting goal side of Havertz.

“Great touch from Chilwell, great run from Havertz, but the ball from Mason Mount was absolutely on the money,” noted Ferdinand, speaking at half-time on BT Sport.

“Zinchenko has to go with him here, he’s at the bottom of the picture with him there.

“It’s lazy defending, go with your man, or if he stands in there and marks him, that ball doesn’t get played through. If he stands in there and marks him, that ball doesn’t get played by Mason Mount.”
