Former Chelsea midfielder Ramires believes N’Golo Kante is a world-class talent and could be a threat in the Ballon d’Or battle.

Ramires believes N’Golo Kante could make the Ballon d’Or top three by winning the Champions League and European Championship this year.

Defensive midfielders don’t normally win many plaudits, but Kante would be a worthy exception. The 30-year-old has been critical for Chelsea, and his impact hasn’t been lost on anyone.

The fact that he’s shaken off a thigh issue for Saturday’s Champions League final against Manchester City has been hailed as a tremendous boost as the Blues prepare for their biggest match of the season.

Now Ramires, who left the club in the same year as Kante’s arrival in 2016, has praised the Frenchman’s qualities.

“I watch Kante play and there’s a movie in my head because I see myself,” the Brazilian midfielder told Mais Futebol.

“He plays, he’s got a highlight reel, but no one sees him wanting to show up off the field.

“He’s very calm, always quiet. He’s an extraordinary player. He’s in every corner of the field. In defense, in the middle, in attack, on the sides. He’s among the best in the world. The way he’s playing is impressive.”

Asked if Champions League and Euro 2020 success would make Kante a Ballon d’Or winner in 2021, Ramires replied: “He may turn out to be one of the top three in the world.

“But it’s hard for a defensive midfielder to come in and win a Ballon d’Or. It would be deserved, yes.”
