Juventus are set to re-hire Massimiliano Allegri as their new manager with Andrea Pirlo facing the sack today, according to reports in Italy.
Despite publicly stating his intention to remain at the club, Andea Pirlo is expected to be sacked by Juventus today, with Massimiliano Allegri making a return to the club.
Allegri, who won five Serie A titles on the bounce during his first stint at Juve from 2014-2019, is understood to have grown impatient at waiting for the hotseat at Real Madrid, although Zinedine Zidane has resigned as well.
Inter Milan, who saw coach Antonio Conte leave his role in a shock yesterday, are also interested in hiring Allegri but Sky Sport Italia report that the announcement between Allegri and Juve for a reunion is now ‘imminent’.
A verbal agreement between Allegri and Juve has reportedly been made with an official announcement expected in the next 24 hours.
Crucial to Allegri’s decision was the assurance that sporting director Fabio Paratici would leave the club, and indeed he will not continue his role beyond his contract which expires at the end of June.
Pirlo was hired as Juve boss last summer but endured a difficult campaign, spectacularly failing to win Serie A for the 10th season in a row and only narrowly qualifying for the Champions League on the final day of the season.
His side were also knocked out of the Champions League last-16 against Porto back in March, though they did win the Coppa Italia last week with a 2-0 victory against Atalanta.
Yet president Andrea Agnelli has seemingly persuaded 53-year-old Allegri to return to the club, with reports stating he has been offered a three-year deal, with the option of a fourth, on a salary around €9m a year.
