It happened during his final match for Manchester City at Etihad Stadium, Sergio Aguero broke one of Wayne Rooney’s all-time records.

It was a perfect day for Sergio Aguero to not only match but surpass one of Wayne Rooney’s all-time records as a player for a single club. Before the match started, ‘Kun’ had 182 goals scored for Manchester City in the Premier League. Rooney managed to score 183 during his time at Manchester United and had the record of most goals scored with a single club in the tournament’s history. We saw Aguero not dressed to impress at the start of today’s match between the Citizens and Everton.

However, Pep Guardiola had a special day ready for the Argentine player. He demanded the rest of the team to set him up for success. It didn’t take long for him to make his impact after coming on the pitch. In a familiar striker’s movement inside the box, Aguero scored the equalizer to Rooney’s all-time record. But this wasn’t enough for the legendary player. He obviously wanted to secure the record before the final whistle. It was the perfect day for him to make it happen.

A header for posterity.

After only a few minutes, ‘Kun’ received a clinical cross from the right flank and responded with a header that made him an even greater legend. That was his goal 184. It was also the perfect ending to a beautiful love story between a player and his club. Although he attempted to get the hat-trick for an even greater end to this brilliant chapter, Aguero had more than enough with breaking this all-time record.

It’s still unclear if this was enough for ‘Kun’ to earn himself a spot inside the starting eleven for the Champions League final. Guardiola might already have his planned line-up for this crucial game. However, today’s performance might’ve at least earned him some minutes during the second half against Chelsea. After that final, all rumors point to ‘Kun’ announcing his arrival to FC Barcelona in order to finish his career playing alongside his dear friend: Leo Messi.
