Ahead of a crucial match against Liverpool on Thursday, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer made an encouraging revelation about Cavani.

Edinson Cavani arrived to play under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer filled with doubts at Manchester United. Initially, nobody believed he had what it takes to wear the number ‘7’ jersey at the club with pride. In the past, this number has been worn by some of the club’s greatest legends such as George Best, Eric Cantona, David Beckham, and Cristiano Ronaldo. But ever since the Portuguese star left, no player has been able to fill those shoes.

There was little hope that Cavani could do that but he finally earned everybody’s trust. In a matter of months, the Uruguay international went from thinking about leaving to club to one of the most important pieces this season. He single handedly took the Red Devils to the Europa League final with brilliant performances in the knock-out stages. But Ole Gunnar Solskjaer appears convinced that Cavani will play his best football at Man United next season.

Ole feels hopeful for United next season.

What Ole Gunnar Solskjaer thinks about Edinson Cavani might be the reason the club decided to extend his contract in the first place. It might also be the reason they might not pursue a striker in the summer transfer window. Instead, they will go after a winger and allow Cavani to lead this team to win trophies. This is what Ole told Manchester United’s website about Cavani: “Well, I think we’ve seen the last few months what we can expect and what we’ve wanted from him.

“Next season, he’ll come ready. He’ll be fit when he comes pre-season. This year, he had seven months of no football to catch up and that’s not easy – he’s had a couple of niggles because of that. He comes in every day, he does everything right. The boys will look at him. He gives us a no.9 position. I don’t know how many games we’ll get out of him but, of course, he’s one of the best no.9s in the world at the moment.”
