From the London Stadium, we bring you the player ratings for the Premier League fixture between West Ham and Chelsea.
West Ham and Chelsea both had clear intentions coming into this crucial Premier League game at the London Stadium. The winning team had the opportunity to climb up the ladder into the top four of the domestic league. With a dramatic 3-2 defeat in their previous fixture against Newcastle, David Moyes’ side aimed for that Champions League spot.
Chelsea on the other hand missed a chance to glide into the third spot in the midweek encounter against Brighton with a goalless draw. But with the European Super League issue dying out, Thomas Tuchel wanted to cement their position in the top draw. Having said that, Timo Werner delivered for the Blues right when it was required with his first-half goal.
Werner settles things for his side.
A few minutes before the half time whistle, the 25-year-old German international slotted home the winning goal for Chelsea. Once again, Ben Chilwell showed his masterclass with a low cross from outside the box straight to Timo who made no mistake. The hosts seemed to pick up the pace at the beginning of the second half, but could not break through with their poor attacking display.
Adding coal to the fire, Balbuena received a straight red card for a terrible challenge on Chilwell which killed the game for West Ham. With this close victory, the visitors now fall behind Leicester City and move three points ahead of the Hammers.
