Arsenal might have pulled out of the European Super League but there could be further implications for owner Stan Kroenke.
Arsenal fans are prepared to take a stand and launch a protest against owner Stan Kroenke ahead of their Premier League clash against Everton on Friday.
Chelsea fans showed their weight after their protests at Stamford Bridge ultimately forced the club to pull out of the European Super League.
As it stands, all English sides have pulled out of the ‘greedy’ initiative but there could be long-lasting effects on the management of these ‘top’ sides. At Manchester United, Ed Woodward has already stepped down from his role as executive vice-chairman.
Arsenal fans will be hoping their protests can go a long way in getting the American billionaire out of the club. Fans on social media have said the protest is “dedicated to getting Kroenke out of our club” but it is not known at this stage how many will attend.
The club had published an open letter to fans on Tuesday night, which confirmed Arsenal would be leaving the European Super League and apologized for “making a mistake”.
Friday’s protest won’t be the first time Arsenal supporters have let their feelings known towards the club hierarchy, with the #WeCareDoYou movement taking center stage in July 2019.
As at the time of writing, the #KroenkeOut hashtag peaked at 200k+ interactions and is among the top trends on Twitter in the UK.
If that isn’t enough, club ambassador Ian Wright also joined the fight, pushing the hashtag on his platform.
It remains to be seen what becomes of the situation but it could ultimately force Kroenke to part ways with Arsenal. Nigerian-billionaire and Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote has severally stated his intention to buy Arsenal and there are calls for him to step up that interest.
It would be interesting to see how it all plays out but Kroenke is now walking on a thin rope as Arsenal owner.
