Elland Road was the place where Liverpool visited Leeds United in the Premier League. We have tonight’s player ratings for you.
It was an already complicated night for Liverpool with all the Super League talk and they still had to play against Leeds United. Elland Road got a multitude of protesters and supporters who blatantly oppose this power grab plan from the Top Six clubs. The Reds started off well during the first half despite sending Mo Salah to the bench for rest. Sadio Mane scored a wonderful collective effort in which Diogo Jota and Trent Alexander-Arnold were involved.
It was an advantage for Jurgen Klopp’s side but we still had the entire second half to play. Still, Jurgen Klopp knew Marcelo Bielsa had something in store for the Reds during the second half. We are talking about the man who just defeated Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City in the same tournament. With Liverpool’s recent form, it’s not strange thinking about a possible drop of points at Elland Road.
Llorente gets a late equalizer.
Marcelo Bielsa decided to organize his squad in terms of defensive order during the second half against Liverpool. The Reds still kept trying to score another goal but they weren’t able to get it despite having Mo Salah on the pitch throughout the second half. Near the end of the match, a corner kick gave Leeds the equalizer. Diego Llorente’s header arrived with perfect timing to a game that was about to end.
With this draw, Liverpool’s chances to get that Top Four position become increasingly more complicated. It’s funny how the news of the Super League will help clubs like the Reds avoid missing their chances to play Champions League next season. A new era in football started today with this match between the modest and the powerful sides of English football.
