An injury-stricken Los Blancos side spent the better part of 90 minutes defending at Anfield but were able to get the job done.

Real Madrid “haven’t won anything yet” reminded Zinedine Zidane after his side booked their place in the semi-finals of the Champions League.

Liverpool’s European journey came to an end on Wednesday as Real Madrid dumped them out of the Champions League following a 3-1 aggregate quarter-final victory.

The Spanish side got the job done despite the absence of a number of their key players including Sergio Ramos, Raphael Varane, Dani Carvajal, and Eden Hazard.

They remain in contention to complete a double this season, with the La Liga title race still wide open and Los Blancos hopeful of a successful title defense.

Zidane came under huge pressure earlier in the season amid the team’s poor form, with his future at the club called into question. But despite the recent progress, he is not hitting back at his critics just yet.

“We’ve not won anything yet, but we’re alive in Europe and LaLiga,” Zidane told post-match, via AS.

“We were up against it and we knew we had to suffer tonight, but in the end we got what we wanted, which was to go through.

“We knew they’d start fast and they were really good in the opening 15 minutes, but that’s normal. In the quarter-finals of the Champions League you have to dig in and we did that and got through.”
