Ahead of the summer transfer window, Arteta has been urged to fix his ‘poor’ defense by replacing three Arsenal stars.

A poor defense is part of the reason for Arsenal’s poor season, and Paul Ince reckons Mikel Arteta should at least change three defenders in the summer.

Rob Holding, Calum Chambers, and David Luiz are the three players Ince has in mind.

The former Liverpool and Manchester United midfielder believes it’s necessary for Arsenal to move forward. In fact, Kieran Tierney is the only untouchable as far as he is concerned.

Despite boasting the Premier League’s sixth-best defensive record, Sunday’s 3-0 win over Sheffield United was the club’s first clean sheet since a 0-0 draw with Manchester United in January.

The Gunners have since kept one clean sheet in their last 10 league games and conceded 15 goals.

“I still think defensively they are poor,” the former Manchester United and Liverpool star told Premier League Productions.

“If you look at the defense, apart from Kieran Tierney, I am looking to change three or four of them.

“No disrespect to Holding or Chambers or Luiz, but if you want to go forward… you see where they are in the table.

“This team should be competing for Champions League places so there are four of five new players they need to bring into that team.”

Arsenal return to action on Thursday for the second leg of their Europa League quarter-final tie with Slavia Prague. With the aggregate scoreline level at 1-1, Arteta’s men need to score at least two goals and avoid defeat to guarantee a semi-final spot.
