Spurs were let off the hook by VAR, but their manager feels they were done injustice shortly before conceding the canceled opener.

Jose Mourinho believes Paul Pogba should have been sent off during Tottenham’s defeat to Manchester United on Sunday.

A controversial first half at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium saw Edinson Cavani’s goal chalked off as referee Chris Kavanagh, on VAR review, found out that Scott McTominay had fouled Son Heung-min in the build-up.

Son quickly equalized but it turned out to be the only highlight of Spurs’ evening as Fred, Cavani, and Greenwood helped United seal a 3-1 win.

Shortly before the incident, Pogba seemed to catch Serge Aurier with his arm in an attempt to tackle him.

The Frenchman avoided punishment for his challenge, but Mourinho suggests his former employers should have been down to 10 men then.

Mourinho told Sky Sports after the match: “We played against a good team, lots of strong players in midfield.

“We had great occasions to score a second goal. We hit the woodwork and were dominant in that period.

“My opinion was a good game. My opinion was we didn’t deserve this result at all. We were unlucky because maybe Pogba should get a red card for an elbow on Serge Aurier.”
