According to Bayern Munich, one of their stars just tested positive for Covid-19 in the latest round of tests. He won’t play vs PSG.
Bayern Munich already lost Robert Lewandowski through an injury during the international break, but they just lost another key player due to Covid-19. After the most recent round of tests for the virus, one player came out with a positive result. We are talking about Serge Gnabry, who is already isolating himself and currently asymptomatic. He will obviously miss Wednesday’s match against Paris Saint-Germain and he might even miss next week’s return leg.
As we all know, the Covid-19 protocols require any infected person to go through a 10-day isolation period while they expel the virus from their system. That is only if the infected person doesn’t display any symptoms. Otherwise, they will have to isolate themselves until they no longer have symptoms. This is what Bayern Munich published on their website: “Serge Gnabry, 25, has tested positive for coronavirus. The FC Bayern forward is doing well and is isolating at home.”
Can Bayern defeat PSG with these absences?
This is arguably one of the most difficult tests for Bayern Munich, who won’t have two of their best players on the pitch. On one hand, we have Robert Lewandowski’s absence due to a knee injury he suffered with Poland. Not having one of the best players in the world at the moment has to be a major blow for the club. Serge Gnabry was probably one level below Lewandowski but he is still considered an elite-level player.
Without these two stars, Bayern will have to rely on players like Thomas Muller, Leroy Sane, and Joshua Kimmich to play against PSG. With these two absences, we can speculate that PSG is the favorite to win the quarterfinal round after two matches. However, we won’t know exactly what will happen until after both matches take place.
