Central to much of Arsenal’s struggles this season, Mikel Arteta has revealed one particular area the Gunners must improve at.

Arteta has called for improvement in one particular department at Arsenal. Indeed, Arsenal have a lot of issues that have plagued them. It doesn’t apply to this season alone but over the years as well.

For a good number of seasons, a faltering defence has seen the Gunners fall short on many ends. More of that has happened in the current campaign too.

The most recent of the above came in Arsenal’s last outing when they battled from three goals down against West Ham to secure a point.

Speaking after that game, Arteta was critical of his side’s concentration and described the goals conceded as ‘unacceptable’. In all honesty, the second goal conceded was indeed shambolic to watch.

Ahead of the Gunners’ clash with Liverpool on Saturday, Arteta has called on his side to improve their concentration, as mistakes could see them punished at the hands of the reigning champions.

He said as per the club’s website: “One of them is related to the attention and focus that you need during the whole game. For example, the way we conceded the second goal against West Ham, where we turned our backs on a free-kick close to our box, is something that we cannot do. It just gives a goal to the opponent. And there’s also the other face, that we really like, the way the team played and reacted, the character we showed and the quality that we provided on the day to come back against a really good opponent from three goals behind.”

Arteta is wary of the threat Liverpool pose if Arsenal make any mistakes at the weekend.

He added: “Absolutely. Against these types of teams, with the quality that they have, they are going to punish you for every error that you do. Even when you don’t make errors and you do everything perfectly, they are still able to break your lines, to create an individual action and to score a goal. Obviously, it is a team where nothing has to be given to them.”
