Right after the big announcement, Gabriel Jesus opened up about becoming Sergio Aguero’s replacement after he leaves the club.

Now that we know Sergio Aguero won’t continue playing at Manchester City, it’s time for Gabriel Jesus to step up his game. The Brazilian striker has been waiting for this opportunity since he started playing for the Citizens. Although he’s already given some positive results since his arrival, he is aware of the requirements they need from him. In order to avoid the club from trying to sign a new striker in the summer, Jesus needs to upgrade his scoring habits.

In a recent interview with Sky Sports, this is what Gabriel Jesus had to say: “I can learn a little bit [from Sergio] but he’s more properly striker than me, he scored more than me,” Jesus tells Sky Sports News. “He goes to the pitch and he scores, he’s more striker than me, I can say that because I work with him every day and I play a lot with him. “When we play together I score one, he scores two, I score two and he scores three. I think I’m going to learn a lot in these next years to become a proper striker who scores a lot.”

Can Jesus convince Guardiola?

In order to prevent Manchester City from signing a new striker, Gabriel Jesus knows what he has to do. However, this comes as a hard bargain because he is not a striker who lives inside the box. “It’s difficult because I have to score more than 10, 15 goals, and there’s still 15/16 games left, but if we win the titles I don’t care about goals,” he says.

“I care about celebrating the titles with my team-mates at the end of the season.” He adds: “Pressure for me is if a guy has to wake up early to put food at home, not playing football. I know I have to score to help my team with goals because strikers survive with goals, but I came here to try and score every game, but sometimes it’s not like this.”
