A late-goal from Dani Olmo spared Spain’s blushes as they came from behind to secure a 2-1 victory over Georgia.
Spain salvaged a 2-1 draw over Georgia thanks to a stoppage-time winner from Dani Olmo. The hosts took the lead in the first half through Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Ferran Torres came up with a much-needed equalizer.
Spain enjoyed a whopping 80 per cent possession in the first half. However, they could only show one effort on target despite all their dominance.
Georgia remained resolute in defence and mostly had all their players defending as they looked to keep Spain at bay.
Their goal came against the run of play after Spain looked totally dominant in the first half, only for Kvaratskhelia to steal away and slot home a tidy finish from the left side of the box just a few minutes for before half time.
Spain came out with the same game plan in the second half, and finally found a way through Georgia’s defence when Ferran Torres scored from the six-yard box.
Having drawn 1-1 with Greece on Thursday, Spain looked on course for another shockingly poor result but there was drama late on. Dani Olmo popped up in the 92nd minute to snatch victory and give the visitors their first win of the World Cup qualifying campaign.
