In a recent Q&A Jose Mourinho had a direct message to all the critics who presume to know more about his work than he does.
In recent years, Jose Mourinho’s critics have been going through a field day with the Portuguese manager’s failures. They even dare to criticize a manager who won the UEFA Champions League with a modest club from Portugal. Someone who won a treble as Inter Milan’s manager. And more importantly, the man who managed to prevent Pep Guardiola’s FC Barcelona from winning every single title for two consecutive years. All of that was accomplished by Jose Mourinho and he still gets criticized for it.
That’s the reason he wanted to send a message to all his naysayers and the people who come after him. In a recent Q&A, this is what Mourinho said: “I don’t think anybody is going to discuss rocket science with the guys from NASA, with everybody around the world. “They think they can discuss football with one of the most important managers in the game. That’s the beauty of football. I got used to it. I appreciate that. So that’s fine for me.”
Has Mourinho lost his touch?
We all guess this is the million-dollar question but it’s a hard one to answer. Although it’s true that Jose hasn’t won a single title since 2016, there are some reasons to think he might just be taking a break. Making the decision to coach a club as limited as Tottenham Hotspur is hardly his fault. There have been offers from bigger clubs but his philosophy has prevented him from taking up on those offers.
Perhaps he might get sacked by Daniel Levy before the end of the season, but Mourinho will win titles again. There is no doubt about his capabilities, it’s just that everybody goes through rough moments in their career. In Jose Mourinho’s case, that tough moment has been going on for a few years. Maybe taking some time off to evaluate what he lacks in order to win titles again is not such a terrible idea.
