The Gabon international was left on the bench for Sunday’s north London derby as a punishment for “breach of pre-match protocols.”

Mikel Arteta says Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s disciplinary issue has been resolved after he held “really positive” talks with the player but insists he still has to earn his place back in the Arsenal team.

Arteta’s decision not to include Aubameyang in Arsenal’s starting XI for the Premier League clash against Tottenham came as a huge surprise, although they managed to get a 2-1 win.

The Spanish manager later revealed that he had originally planned to start the 31-year-old but dropped him to the bunch over misconduct.

While he did not provide an extensive explanation, it was reported that the striker was being disciplined for arriving late to the club’s London Colney training base.

“We talked, everything has been resolved in a really positive way so we move forward,” Arteta told, via The Guardian.

“No, everybody has to obviously perform at the highest level to earn their place in the team. There is no exception there and we will try to put a really competitive team out to try to win again.”

It remains to be seen if Aubameyang returns to the Arsenal starting XI for the Europa League last-16 second-leg clash with Olympiacos on Thursday night.
