During his official presentation as FC Barcelona’s new president, Joan Laporta offered a passionate speech we picked up for you.

It’s official, Joan Laporta is finally FC Barcelona’s new president after many hurdles along the way. The new chairman was greeted by an important number of VIP guests and gave his first speech of a new term as the club’s new president. After getting a presentation from former interim chairman, Carles Tusquets, Joan took the stage to say the following words via the club’s official website: “I am deeply grateful to my campaign team. We can be extremely proud of the work we’ve done.

“There’s a major challenge waiting that we’ll overtake with maximum responsibility and optimism in order to take Barcelona back to glory. This is a tenure I expect to be splendid for Barça’s history. Our top priority is for Barcelona to be financially stable again. We need to win the Copa and La Liga this season. Everybody is happy and hopeful that this will only improve. We believe that we have a highly competitive squad that can win titles by playing spectacular football. Our goal is to get back the correlation between Barcelona and the Champions League.”

Laporta quotes Johan Cruyff.

“To quote the late Johan Cruyff: ‘Only God knows what it took us getting here’,” he added. “All Cruyff supporters know this. The players are the ones who bring hope to all Barcelona supporters. When I put up the banner in Madrid, that was also dedicated to you. I’m really happy to see you again. You are the ones who lift this club to the sky. With me, you will see a president who is here to serve you.

“We are all here to help you and protect you. You have the job to bring back happiness and hope to all Barcelona supporters. We need to love our players more than ever before. With us, you won’t be alone for we will be with you along the way.” This is what Laporta told the people who attended his ceremony as he overtakes what can arguably be considered the greatest challenge of his life.
