The Red Devils icon can see the in-demand Norwegian heading to England and has urged his former club to be ready for his capture.
Rio Ferdinand wants Manchester United to “go and give everything” to sign Erling Haaland as he can “be the guy that brings trophies back” to the club.
20-year-old Haaland has sparked a frenzy in the football world, with almost every top European side reportedly interested in acquiring his services.
The young striker’s stock has constantly been on the rise ever since his transfer to Borussia Dortmund. His goal tally for the Bundesliga outfit is simply outrageous – 47 goals in 48 games across all competitions.
He is understood to have a €75 million release clause on his BVB contract which will come into play in 2022. However, seriously interested clubs in him won’t wait until then to bid for the former RB Salzburg man.
The battle to land Haaland will likely commence this summer, and Rio Ferdinand wants to see Manchester United come out on top in it.
“You know what, they’ve just got to go and give everything to get Haaland, I don’t care,” the former defender said on his YouTube channel.
“I don’t like to talk about players coming from other teams but this guy man, we can’t afford to let this guy go anywhere else.
“His only destination is England, that’s the only place he’s going. If he goes anywhere else I’d be so surprised.
“Born here, born and bred. He obviously loves English football, his dad played here. I’m sure it’s one of his dreams to come and play in England.
“Why not in the red shirt at Old Trafford? Be the guy that brings trophies back to Man United and brings the successful period back. Be that guy.”
