Parc des Princes was the place where FC Barcelona visited PSG in the Champions League. We have tonight’s player ratings for you.
It was mission impossible for FC Barcelona against PSG tonight. The Champions League continued with the possibility to have a quarterfinal knock-out stage with no Messi or Ronaldo since 2005. All we can say is that we enjoyed it while it lasted quite a bit. We are all grateful for what these two giants brought to the sport. But football needs to keep moving forward and we saw Kylian Mbappe making a statement throughout this stage.
Barcelona had one shot at trying to come back from the disaster of the last game. They dominated during the first half with very little fortune on their side. Also, Keylor Navas was on point in all the moments he was needed to make transcendental saves for PSG. He blocked a penalty against Messi in one of the crucial moments of the evening. Before that happened, Clement Lenglet stepped on Mauro Icardi’s ankle to create a penalty for PSG. Mbappe didn’t miss and made life even more difficult for Barcelona.
Messi scores a screamer and then fails.
Right after Mbappe’s goal, Messi scored a beautiful long-range solo goal that gave some hope to Barcelona. However, this was an impossible task already because the Blaugrana needed at least four more goals. After Keylor Navas saved that penalty from Messi, it was game over. The second half wasn’t as dominant from the Spanish club and PSG was able to control the tempo of the game much better.
Without Neymar on the pitch, PSG gets to the Champions League quarterfinals that still have them as one of the top title contenders. As far as Barcelona goes, they at least didn’t lose in a scandalous manner. But they really lost this stage in the first-leg with Kylian Mbappe’s hat-trick. Hopefully, next season will be different with Barcelona’s new president.
