Etihad Stadium was the place where Manchester City wanted their 21st victory against Wolves. We have tonight’s player ratings.

If there is a club that could end Manchester City’s 20-match winning streak, that was Nuno Espirito Santos’ Wolves. The Portuguese manager has a positive record in recent years against Pep Guardiola’s boys and he got pretty close to his objective today. In fact, take the last ten minutes of today’s match and you get a well-deserved draw. But this is arguably the most dominant Manchester City we’ve seen during the Pep Guardiola era.

The key to this squad’s high level of performance is the overwhelming amount of great players they have at the highest level. Just today, Ilkay Gundogan wasn’t present from the start but his place was taken by Bernardo Silva and Riyad Mahrez. John Stones was also absent but Aymeric Laporte was there to pick up the slack. This squad has very few flaws right now, perhaps they are only lacking a proper striker. Although today, Gabriel Jesus also filled that gap to perfection.

An insane last 10 minutes from City.

In the first half, an own goal from Dendocker gave City the lead until the second half. Conor Coady was the man who hinted at possibly ending the historic winning streak. But Pep Guardiola was relentless from the sidelines, he wanted that 21st win in a row from his players. With Riyad Mahrez leading the charge alongside Bernardo Silva, the Citizens got a dramatic second goal from Gabriel Jesus.

From that moment forward, it was all City trying to plow through the Wolves’ defense. Mahrez got the third goal in the 90th minute and Jesus got a brace after VAR corrected the ref’s decision to disallow his late goal. With this 4-1 victory, Nuno’s squad gets a cruel result from a match where they deserved a draw until the 80th minute. If it wasn’t clear enough by now, Manchester City pretty much has the Premier League in the bag.
