Lautaro Martinez was the star of the day as Inter beat rivals AC Milan to go four points clear at the top of the Serie A.
Lautaro Martinez stole the headlines as Inter won the latest edition of the Derby della Madonnina.
A 3-0 victory for Inter against rivals AC Milan saw them go four points clear at the top of Serie A.
Lautaro Martinez scored in either half of the game to score his 12th & 13th Serie A goals of the season.
Lukaku then completed the rout late on to bag his 17th goal of the season as he remains in line to win the Capocannoniere this season.
Speaking after the game, Martinez says Inter proved their title credentials and are happy to be top of the table at the moment.
“That’s who we are. We work every day to put Inter on top, we want to continue like this, we are very happy,” the striker told Sky Sport Italia.
“We fight altogether, we suffered a lot this season, with the eliminations from Coppa Italia and Champions League. This is the only target left for us and we are happy to be on top of the table.
Lukaku and Martinez combined for Inter’s first goal and the Argentine hailed the Belgian’s impact on the club so far this season.
“Lukaku has still room for improvement. He is young, he works hard on and off the pitch. He is a great person and we are happy to have him with us.” he added.
The game could have seen a different scoreline if not for Inter goalkeeper Samir Handanovic.
Just at the start of the second half, the Slovenian goalkeeper made three crucial saves to keep his side in the game.
“Handanovic is always ready when we need him. We should have been more focused but we played a great game,” he concluded.
