After an upsetting draw with Benfica in the Europa League last-32 tie, Mikel Arteta demands more from Arsenal.
Mikel Arteta believes that Arsenal could have pulled out something more on Wednesday night. The Gunners were forced to a 1-1 draw against Benfica in the Europa League clash at Stadio Olimpico. Fortunately for the English side, Bukayo Saka scored the equaliser just after the Portuguese team took the lead. This means that both the teams will go into the return fixture next week with locked horns.
Arteta’s side only managed to rack two shots on target in this tussle in Rome. And along with other frustrated faces, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang admitted on Twitter that the team should have done better. Though the Spanish boss was content with his team’s resilient performance, he thinks that they could have achieved the three points.
The boss expects more.
Arteta told BT Sport: “We were very dominant and created some big chances. We have to be more ruthless. It was disappointing the way we conceded the goal. We gave them the ball then it was 1-1 and all to play for.”
“We conceded a corner then from the corner we did not react quick enough and conceded the penalty. Looking at it it’s difficult to judge. We had a great reaction and scored a great goal. We tried to maintain the level. Both teams dropped in the last 20 minutes. But overall we should leave the ground with more.”
