Wolverhampton Wanderers and Southampton faced each other at the Molineux for the FA Cup. We have the player ratings.

The Saints are through to the quarter-finals after beating Wolves at home this Thursday night. Southampton were the clear winners right from the start since Nuno Espirito Santo’s squad failed to get a single shot on target.

Although there weren’t many goal opportunities in the first half, the Saints had more ball possession and three shots on target that could’ve put them in the lead. In fact, Southampton came out after the break looking determined to prove their superiority, and so they did.

Ryan Bertrand didn’t think twice after spotting the Saints’ most dangerous man at the start of his run. Danny Ings, who was flagged offside at first, was left alone against the goalkeeper. Consequently, the star striker enjoyed a bit of luck mixed with a good VAR call to put Southampton in the lead.

Although Wolves improved quite a bit after Pedro Neto entered the pitch, the Portuguese’s presence wasn’t enough for the club to get an equalizer. The 20-year-old even created Wolverhampton’s most dangerous chance and almost assisted Adama Traore. However, Fraser Forster was there to stop the winger’s first-touch strike with his feet.

At the end of the match, Southampton took advantage of a terrible mistake from John Ruddy to seal the win. The goalkeeper accidentally flicked the ball onto Tella, who patiently waited for a teammate to arrive. Stuart Armstrong, one of the Saints’ best players of the match, took his time and scored a wonderful goal without much opposition.

Southampton will now face Bournemouth in the FA Cup’s quarter-finals. However, before they will face Wolverhampton once again this Sunday, this time for the Premier League.
