Thomas Tuchel has given the latest update on Thiago Silva after the defender went off with a suspected thigh injury against Tottenham.
Thiago Silva is a doubt to feature for Chelsea against Sheffield United on Sunday, says Thomas Tuchel.
The defender limped out in the first half during the Blues’ victory over Spurs on Thursday.
Chelsea are yet to get an official diagnosis on the injury but it is believed Silva suffered a thigh strain.
It is now unlikely he will be available for the Blues’ next outing against the Blades at Bramall Lane.
Tuchel said to the club’s website on Silva: “It will be very tight for Sunday. It is only in two days, but it is hard to give a diagnosis because I saw him only very quickly in the dressing room with a big strap around his muscle.”
“We will have to wait until tomorrow so we can confirm it, but I think for Sunday he is a big doubt and I don’t think that he can play.”
Following his injury, Silva had to be replaced by Andreas Christensen.
The veteran defender was able to walk off the pitch on his own and that is at least some positive for the Blues.
Silva has been one of the Blues’ best defenders this season and his absence could be a blow for Thomas Tuchel. The 36-year-old has started each of the three games played since the German took over from Frank Lampard at Stamford Bridge.
With Kurt Zouma missing the game against Spurs after a niggle in training, it could leave the Blues short of defensive options for the weekend.
