Paul Scholes was critical of a poor outing from Bruno Fernandes against Arsenal while adding on United’s chances of winning the league.

Paul Scholes says he was left deeply concerned by a quiet game from Bruno Fernandes in Manchester United’s 0-0 draw against Arsenal at the Emirates.

The Portuguese has been nothing short of a revelation since moving to Old Trafford a year ago. However, he has been heavily criticized for failing to turn up in big games.

Fernandes boasts an impressive tally of 11 goals and eight assists in 21 Premier League appearances this season. On closer look, just one of these goal involvements came against a fellow ‘Big Six’ club.

By his own standards, the 26-year-old has performed poorly in United’s last two outings; the 2-1 defeat against Sheffield United and the 0-0 draw with Arsenal.

Red Devils legend Scholes says he has been “disappointed” by Fernandes in recent fixtures. Speaking on a potential title charge, he claims United do not look like a team capable of lifting the Premier League title at the end of the season.

“They (United) can’t seem to win those games,” Scholes told Premier League Productions.

“When you’re struggling against Sheffield United the other night, you’re beaten by them and then you come to a big game, they just can’t win them.

“They just can’t find a way of doing it. Bruno Fernandes has been disappointing in every single one of them. He’s had great numbers, great assists, great goals. In the last five games against big teams, he’s had no goals, no assists.

“It’s really worrying and that’s why United are where they’re at. They’re in a good position tonight but it’s not a position where you think ‘this team will go on to win the league’.”
