Fitness issues have troubled the Nigerian a lot this season, and it had appeared he was set for another lengthy spell on the sidelines.

Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers has downplayed the severity of Wilfred Ndidi’s injury.

Ndidi couldn’t even last for the full length of the first half of the match against Everton on Wednesday as he was subbed off after 42 minutes after picking up a knock.

The Nigeria international received some treatment on his hamstring but, so as to prevent the condition from worsening, was subsequently replaced by Papy Mendy.

He has made just 15 appearances across all competitions this season due to a range of fitness issues. And it was feared that the injury picked up at Goodison Park would send the defensive midfielder for another lengthy spell on the sidelines.

“Wilf was tight, it was the back of his hamstring, so we’ll see how that goes in the next couple of days,” Rodgers said, calming those fears, as per the club’s official website.

“It’s just tightened up. He doesn’t think he’s overstretched or tore it. We’ll just have to assess that. We couldn’t risk it.”

Leicester City could only salvage a point against Everton and will hope to get back to winning ways when they face Leeds United on Sunday.
