The Red Devils boss has opened up on Van de Beek’s struggles to break into the line-up following his big-money transfer.

Donny van de Beek is unhappy, says Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. The Manchester United manager has sympathy for his new signing’s struggles to win a regular role in the team but remains pleased with his attitude.

Van de Beek may have made 21 appearances in all competitions, but he’s only made Solskjaer’s line-up on nine occasions. The Norwegian coach has also left him benched in the club’s last six Premier League games.

The likes of Bruno Fernandes, Paul Pogba, Scott McTominay, and Fred have instead won favor in central midfield roles.

“I wouldn’t say that Donny is happy,” said Solskjaer as quoted on Goal. “Of course, he wants to play more, but he gets about his job in the right manner.

“We are doing well and have got players who are playing really well in his position.”

The former striker, who was famed for being a super-sub during his own Red Devils playing career, added: “He reminds me a lot about myself, when I first came in, that he understands my difficulties and challenges.

“I was the same with Sir Alex [Ferguson, former Man Utd head coach]. When he left me out I understood and I was happy for the team to win – and Donny is that type of guy.

“He knows he is important for us and knows he is going to play many games.”
