The former Juventus striker is reportedly on the verge of sealing a return to Serie A after leaving the Italian league over a year ago.

Mario Mandzukic is set to undergo a medical soon ahead of a free transfer to AC Milan, according to reports from Italy.

The 34-year-old has been without a club since mutually agreeing to end his contract with Qatari side Al-Duhai. Fenerbahce, Fiorentina, Lokomotiv Moscow, and Aston Villa have all reportedly expressed an interest in signing him.

But Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano claims AC Milan will be his next club. The player will arrive later on Sunday to sign a contract until the end of the season after agreeing on personal terms. Once the medical is complete, he can officially complete his transfer.

Rossoneri manager Stefano Pioli, however, refused to comment on Mandzukic’s imminent arrival ahead of Monday’s trip to Cagliari.

“We have an important game tomorrow, I can’t talk about players who are not part of the team,” said Pioli in a pre-match conference on Sunday.

Mandzukic could prove a valuable asset in Milan’s pursuit of a first league title in a decade. The Croatian is a proven performer in Serie A, having previously scored 31 goals in 118 appearances for Juventus.

Aside from winning the Italian top-flight on four successive occasions, he has won silverware in Germany with Bayern Munich and in Spain for Atletico Madrid.
