The Liverpool boss has talked up the return of a key player ahead of Sunday’s top of the table showdown with Manchester United.
Thiago Alcantara’s return is the equivalent of a new signing, says Jurgen Klopp, who suggested the midfielder’s versatility could prove a useful aid for Liverpool in their showdown with Manchester United.
The former Bayern Munich star has spent most of his debut campaign sidelined with a knee injury. But he’s recently returned to action, having made three appearances since his comeback at the end of December.
Thiago’s comeback comes at a time when Liverpool have struggled in the attack, having only scored one goal in their last three Premier League games (D2 L1).
The three-match winless run has put more pressure on Klopp to bring in reinforcements in January, especially in defense.
“To put the pressure a little bit off the situation I said we should sign Thiago in the window [as a joke],” said the Reds boss as quoted by BT Sport.
Now he is here, let’s hope he stays like this for a long, long, long, long time.
“The most important thing is he is fit, and he trained. He had 90 and 45 minutes in the last two games.
“We will see if he can play and which position he can play because there are different options.
“But it is really good to have him around now. He is a really good guy and an exceptional football player. It is like a new signing.”
