Pep Guardiola was frustrated to see Sergio Aguero miss out against Birmingham and admits he is unsure when the forward will return to action.
Aguero was widely expected to start against Birmingham in the FA Cup third round as he steps up his return from injury.
The Argentine has only made three starts all season for Manchester City across all competitions. Injury and fitness struggles have limited the forward’s game time this season by far.
On Sunday afternoon, Aguero missed out on another chance for more minutes after it appeared the player had to self-isolate.
Guardiola revealed that after coming into contact with someone who has tested positive, his comeback will be delayed again. The City boss admits he remains unsure when his star forward will be back on the pitch.
Aquero has only featured nine times in all competitions for the Citizens this term. His last appearance came as a late substitute in City’s 3-1 victory over Chelsea on the 3rd of January.
In his absence, Guardiola’s men still won Birmingham without fuss. Bernando Silva bagged a quick brace before Phil Foden made it 3-0.
Regardless, the City boss admitted he was frustrated with Aguero’s continuous struggles for fitness this season.
“Unfortunately he was in contact more than usual with one person who is positive. He must isolate for a few days,” Guardiola said on Aguero as quoted by Manchester Evening News.
“I don’t know exactly because he has been tested like all of us six times in the last 10-15 days so it is negative.
“Today I think he was negative too but the protocols say in some cases isolate, and in other cases, we still play football. He was not able to play today.
“It is a pity. It was a perfect day to get minutes but unfortunately he has to be a few days out.”
