As they get ready for Sunday’s match against Birmingham, Pep Guardiola revealed he is eager to have one of his biggest stars back in action.
Pep Guardiola just confirmed his biggest star at Manchester City is set to start in Sunday’s third-round FA Cup match against Birmingham City. The game is set to take place at Etihad Stadium and it will mark the return from a long period of injuries for ‘Kun’. It’s been a tough season for the Argentine in regards to injuries but there are images of him having fun in practice over the week.
For Pep, Aguero is arguably the most important player in the club’s history but he still thinks of him as an essential player. We only need to hear what he had to say about his striker’s return and realize he is eager to have him back. Keep in mind that Manchester City has been playing defensive football this season because they don’t have players like ‘Kun’. Although they’ve been getting results, Guardiola hates having to use other alternatives. Aguero’s return means more goals are coming for City.
Pep is thrilled to have Aguero back.
It’s evident Guardiola was waiting for Aguero to recover, he can finally rely on a top striker for his attacking line. “Just look at the numbers, the quality he has in the box, Sergio is unique,” Guardiola told his pre-match news conference via Goal. “He has a tough, tough injury. The important thing is his mood is exceptional, I would say better than ever. It’s important that the feeling, the last two weeks, his knee’s reaction was really good after training.
“This is the best news we can have. He’s going to start, the minutes his performance level or knee will dictate. What’s important is good quality minutes, as much as possible, we start from the beginning and after we’ll see what happens. It will be great to have Sergio fit. He’s so optimistic. He says ‘I will score goals’ and that is the most important thing.”
