Arsenal have been handed a boost with the news that Thomas Partey is back in full training after spending a spell on the sidelines due to injury.
Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey is back in full training and is in contention to make his comeback against Newcastle United on Saturday.
The Ghanaian has not played since December 6 after he injured his thigh in the north London derby defeat to Tottenham.
Partey has been working his way back to full fitness since then and has now retuned to training.
The 27-year-old is being assessed by Arsenal’s medical team, but he could play some part in Saturday’s FA Cup third-round tie against Newcastle.
An update on the Gunners website read: “Thomas is now back in full training with the squad after recovering from an injury to his left thigh. Thomas will continue to work hard to establish match fitness after being out of action for a month.”
“He will be assessed regarding his availability ahead of Saturday’s match.”
Asides from Thomas Partey, there is more good news for the Gunners. Gabriel Magalhaes is recovering well after testing positive for covid-19 last month.
The Brazilian tested positive for the virus just before Arsenal’s Carabao Cup quarter-final meeting with Manchester City on December 22 and has not played since.
“Gabriel previously tested positive for COVID-19,” the club said regarding the defender.
“He is feeling well and is showing no signs of illness. Only on the successful completion of the necessary protocols and medical checks in the coming days will Gabriel be able to return to full training with the squad.”
Arsenal are the current FA Cup holders and will be aiming for a strong cup defense when they take on Newcastle at the weekend.
