A huge claim has been made about Lampard and his apparent desire to become Barcelona manager after almost joining the club as a player.

Frank Lampard dreams of becoming Barcelona manager at some stage in his career, according to Spanish journalist Guillem Balague.

The 41-year-old is currently in his second season in charge of Chelsea, and third as a manager overall. Since replacing Maurizio Sarri in July 2019, he has won 41 of his 80 games (D15 L24) at Stamford Bridge.

The pressure has increased on Lampard for this season, though. He has struggled to get the best out of all the Blues’ summer signings, namely German duo Timo Werner and Kai Havertz. And a dip in form has raised doubts over his future.

According to Balague anyway, it’s done nothing to deter Lampard from dreaming big.

The renowned journalist claimed in an interview with Catalan outlet ‘Esport 3’ that Lampard wanted to join Barcelona as a player. He almost left Chelsea for the Blaugrana in 2005, but the transfer ultimately never materialized.

“His dream is to coach in La Liga and do what he could not do as a player,” said Balague.

“He would like to sit on the bench at the Camp Nou and coach Barca.”

Only time will tell if Lampard’s alleged dream comes true. In the short term, it doesn’t seem likely for now. The upcoming presidential elections promise big changes over at Barcelona. Nothing is set in stone right now, of course. But if the new president is to drop Ronald Koeman as manager for next season, club legend Xavi Hernandez would be the favorite to succeed the Dutchman.
